Manage items across Timebook

We want to give you a platform to manage your work in a truly agile way. Timebook lets you define and customize all your work-related item types. Pick the names and icons that are most meaningful to your organization. Then select or create properties associated with each type.

With Timebook, you can work with the default system item types that we designed for you. These allow you to focus on well-known concepts in work management, like Tasks, Stories, or Goals. But you can also use Workplace Admin to create custom item types or modify existing ones to adjust them to your working style.

The item library has a middle pane that lists all the item types in .

See the rest of this article to learn more about editing and creating item types in the library.

Edit an item type

To edit an existing item type, select it in the middle pane and do any of the following:

  • Rename, add a description, or change the icon of the selected type.

  • Press on any of the fields to edit their values, names, or descriptions. Timebook system fields, marked with the lock icon, can't be edited.

  • You can add new fields to an existing item type. Press [Add field] and select the fields you want to add. Use the [Select from library] option if you want one of the Timebook's system fields or a previously used field. But you can select [Create using editor] if you only need a generic field for which you will provide all the details.

  • You can also drag and drop fields across the list. The order of fields is reflected on item cards, so place the most important fields at the top.

  • To remove a field from an item type, press the [Meatballs] icon next to the field and select [Remove].

Remember to press [Save] to confirm the changes.

After you edit an item type, we will update the appearance of all items of this type already in the system accordingly.

You can also define which [Sections] will be available when managing your item types.

Sections are specific functions or areas displayed on item cards. When you remove or add a section to a selected type in the item library, you modify how the cards of all items of this type will look.

Managing sections is almost identical to managing fields explained above.

Create an item type

You can create custom item types if you are not satisfied with the Timebook system ones:

  1. In the middle pane, press [Add item type] at the bottom of the list.

  2. Give your new item type a meaningful name. Then press on the item type to manage its details.

  3. Press [Add field] and select the fields you want to show in your new item type.

  4. Press on any field to edit its value, name, or description. Timebook system fields marked with the lock icon can't be edited.

  5. You can also drag and drop fields across the list. The order of fields is reflected on item cards, so place the most important fields at the top.

  6. Press [Save] to confirm the changes.

The process above explains how to create a new item type. But you must also enable the newly created item type in selected Timebook Apps. Once you do this, you can apply the type to items inside these Apps.

For more information on apps and how to manage them, see App library

To delete an item type with all its fields, press the [Meatballs] menu next to the item type name and select [Delete].
