Story Map layout features

You can use the following work-management features with the Story Map layout:

  • Use the [Parking lot] section at the bottom to add or rearrange upcoming project work. This section is like your project's to-do list; use the [New Work Item] button to create additional child items and drag them between parent items.

  • Open the [Meatballs] menu in the top-left corner of the [Parking lot] to add a new Release to your Story Map. Releases are horizontal blocks that run across all parent Work Items. You can use Releases to add another layer of work management. For example, you can create Releases representing months or quarters and then move your Work Items inside them to track project progress.

  • You can "promote" child items to become parent items. To do so, drag a child item to the top row next to other parent items. You can now use the Releases below to add child items to the newly created parent item.

When adding Releases, you can create new ones, but you can also reuse other Releases existing in the same .

To do so, open the [Meatballs] menu in the top-left corner of the [Parking lot] and select [Add existing Release]. Then select the Release you want to reuse from the list.

You can define a time range for each Release.

Press the [Calendar] icon next to the name of a Release. Then select the start and end dates for the Release.
